Quilting Ideas

So I was walking through the masses at the Plaza Art Fair on Saturday with my camera. No different than usual and no different than about 40% of the other people. I was following this old lady with a really big hat. She was standing in front of a quilt display and as soon as she moved in front of one of the most hideous quilts in all the land, I started to pull the camera up to get a funny shot, when the quilter grabbed my arm and told me not to take pictures of her quilts.

It's cool lady, I promise, I'm not bitin' your style. I will however, blog about this conversation and post pictures.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the picture. But I did get to spend some quality time with me Pappy, talking about pictures, photoshop and classical Latin guitar.

Good times.

Health and Longevity by JG Richardson, MD

I've had this old medical hygiene book around for several years. It's called 'Health and Longevity' by Joseph G. Richardson, Professor of Hygiene at the University of Pennsylvania. It was published in 1911 and is long. Long to the tune of about 1500 pages. The book is in shambles. The cover and binding has been ripped completely off. Pages have been falling out for years and it's just a general eyesore. Why have I kept it? Because it's a goldmine of comedy.

This weekend, among other things, I went through and pulled the color plates out of it. I figure I may be able to come up with something cool to do with them eventually, but in the short term, I decided to scan in a few of the more interesting ones, depicting the extremely wide variety of topics covered in the book as well as the wide variety of remedies and treatment methods used in the 'good ol days' as well as some much-needed insight into what the real problems of the day were. Here's a couple snippets:
